I really want to start on this ASAP but i just dont know where to start since i have a little bit of money. EBay and Amazon are not simple and you want to make something like them, you do not want to make something that is simple, but very complex. If you want to make something similar to eBay or Amazon and want to know where to get started, I would work to get a couple hundred million dollars just to get started. But some very successful websites get started for much less. Realistically, if you want to make a web app, you should make a list of the requirements you have and pull together all of your branding. Once you outline the requirements, start putting together a project team with very clear direction of what you need done and what you are paying for. Also investigate any currently available technologies or apps that you can integrate. That being said, I wish you the best and I hope you DO make the next eBay or Amazon. I dont want a website exactly like Amazon or eBay, but something similiar with a niche i have. Something simple. Can you guys help me guide to the right direction? I really want to start on this ASAP but i just dont know where to start since i have a little bit of money. I think actually starting out Amazon or Ebay would be a better bet than trying to be them. These businesses have huge scale and intrinsic advantages. Plus, they have traffic (customers) and you don't need to put any capital down. Why not start on their platforms, learn, build a customer base, and go from there? Hi, I know 100% what you feel, I had the same and I did it. First, I wrote the plan, it took me 4 months and 64 pages, wrote the idea into detail. Second, I looked for a trustable programmer, who would not steel the idea, together we made an estimate, how much time it would cost. 12.000 hours of programming we calculated, with 3 persons at the same time. Thirth, finding investors, when you not have a network, like me, it can take a long time. More than 12 months and I raised half the money we needed. Fourth, start programming, for more as a year we just program program program. Fifth, we went online to fast () Sixth, results after one year in SEO () Seventh, I loved it, we are still working working working, every day, to make it better and better. Eight, forget about holidays, free time or family planning the next years. But one thing I can say. If I were you.and considering your dream and goals.I would go back to the drawing board.and start with a business plan.in step-by-step detail. I would study everything I could get my hands on regarding this business model. I would practice and experiment with both the modeling styles of Ebay and Amazon.what I mean is, learn to buy and sell on both platforms.and take notes of your successes and failures.each and every one. Buy and sell, buy and sell.and study everything.research everything about these two business models.RESEARCH, STUDY, RESEARCH STUDY. Sleep with these two 24/7/365.dream, practice, study.and never let anyone tell you it's an impossible endeavor.because it's not! If you quit, you'll never have your Ebay or Amazon empire.yet if you don't quit, and follow the above advice adamently.you will have your success. This will take some time.yet since you love this.really love this.this will be your 'labor of love'. The long nights and days.the backaches you'll have.the eye strains.the headaches.the frustrations.the agonizing doubts, weariness.and the continual nagging in the back of your mind.' I can't do this'.then this is when you tell yourself.' Yet, what if I can?' Always, I mean always.KNOW YOU CAN.ALWAYS. And continue on.until one day.YOUR EBAY AMAZON DREAM IS REALITY. Remember this.always.always. Never quit.Never. Hope this helps. Pm me if you need anything.and I'll try. OP: Nobody can give you the advice you're looking for. None of us are qualified to compete with eBay or Amazon- if we were, we'd already be doing it and rolling in the $$. Now, I'm not saying that it's impossible to do. Nothing's entirely impossible. But you're going to have to do the reading. You're going to have to do the coding. Read up about the history of Amazon and eBay, and how THEY developed their sites. Learn everything there is to know about the competition, and you'll be in a better position to know what to do from there. I have this idea and i never felt so confident with this idea i have. Hi there you would need a front end and back end website that allows your customers to set up a registration and become members. This will allow them to manage their own products and pricing. Unless you have a lot of coding experience then this site will cost you a lot of money and can't be built on the free website building platforms. If you are looking for a very simple to use site building platform that has a lot to offer with no coding experience I would suggest you check out this video and all the feed back from satisfied users site it is very simple to use and has a lot of features. You can get a lot of support in their forums to help you with your builds. Like coding to copy and paste into your site if needed for special features you want to add to your site. For a very small investment it will allow you to build unlimited professional websites. I've just built a website using this program check it out as a sample. No doubt people have built better ones. Saying you want to do something similar to eBay or Amazon, to me sounds similar to saying you are planning to colonize Pluto, even though you have not yet learned how to build a jet engine. However it is not that difficult to actually build a website using things like Joomila and Magento, and then modding them, I would highly suggest you not try doing it from scratch, because the chances of you actually getting your money back from such an endeavor are about the same as winning the lottery. I am in my mid 40s and all the epic dream chasers I know are dead broke these days. I would suggest to aim for something a little less epic, the main reason being that the world is not fair and Amazon and Ebay will crush you with billions in advertising if they see you coming up on their heals, trust me, they have done this to me and probably millions of others. Amazon made up nearly halve of all AdWords income for Google last year to thoroughly dominate the retail internet. The act of getting enough people to sign up and start posting on your website will likely cost you millions in advertising once the site is functional. There are actually thousands of other big websites out there that are trying to compete with ebay and amazon, but you have never heard of them, likely just like they probably won't hear of you. I would suggest building an affiliate website to get your feet wet, and you could then of course convert that into an online marketplace at a later date. Best of luck to you. Personally if I had the millions needed to be successful in such a thing, I would go just go live on a beach instead. Here I wrote this a few years ago, maybe it will help • •.
